(this is one of my first blog posts, so if you have something to tell me, feel free to type it down on the comments.)
There are many wonderful characters in the animated show "Adventure Time". They may vary from their appearance, like from the beautiful, attractive and serene Princess Bubblegum, which was one of the well-known princesses in the realm of Ooo, the heroic and childish human with the name Finn, to the weird-looking and unattractive Ice King, who somewhat tries to kidnap princesses for a living and make them as his bride, if it is possible.

But, this sociopath in this realm has some mysterious origins. --- which will I further explain in this post.
Ice King might be one of the most annoying and the most uncanny characters in the show, due to his very unruly business of kidnapping princesses throughout Ooo. Though he can be such a hated person in the realm, he still has a lot of secrets to be unveiled, or debunked, or whatever you want to call it.
In the part two of the two-part episode "Jolly Holly Secrets" (it is evident that the word was mentioned in the title) explains a heap of info about the hidden past of the Ice King.
The mentioned episode above is all about video tapes, hidden in a brief found by Finn and Jake in a dump when they are hunting for treasure. (in a dump, u srs m8?) Soon in the episode, they used BMO to watch those tapes. As they watched those secret tapes together, it was evident that those secret tapes contain hidden messages, easter eggs and stuff, so they tried to find out all of them. However, it was too late, IK found out they were watching his secret tapes and he tried to distract them through busting into his house using an army of snowmen to find out what are they doing. After watching lots of senseless tapes, they got caught under Finn's bed in the two's bedroom watching the tapes. After getting distracted by IK-made snowmen and the Ice King himself, Beemo found out that there's only one tape left to play. Ice King tried to force Beemo to avoid playing the tape, but due to the console's curiosity, he...
played it...

- Simon [On tape]: I was studying to be an
antiquarian of ancient artifacts. Now, I never believed in the
supernatural stuff myself—just had a fascination with superstitions...
but everything changed when I came into contact with this item....
- [Simon Petrikov slowly opens a safe and takes out a gem-encrusted crown. Finn and Jake look surprised.]
- Finn and Jake: The Ice King!! [Interested, they sit down to listen closer. Ice King comes closer as well.]
- Simon: After purchasing this crown from an old dock
worker in northern Scandinavia, I brought it home and excitedly showed
my fiancée Betty, [Putting crown on] and jokingly put it on my
head just for a laugh or something... and that's when it started... The
visions... [Whispering] I fought with them... [Raising his voice,
frightened] Shouted at them until I realized it wasn't real—it was the
crown!! [Taking crown off] I quickly took it off... and saw my fiancée in front of me... [Whispering]
looking at me with such contempt. What had I said? What had I done when
I wore this crown? All I know is I never saw Betty again.
- [Another recording activates. Simon now has paler hair, blue skin, and stubble on his chin.]
- Simon: Since then, I see the visions always whether or
not I wear the crown. They tell me the secrets... the secrets of the ice
and snow... that the power of the crown will save me with its frost. I
don't yet know what this means. As you can see, my skin is beginning to
turn blue. My body temperature has been lowering at a supernatural rate,
to what is now about 30°C. I don't know when it will end... I'm really
scared...
- [Another recording activates. Simon now has a white mustache and beard.]
- Simon: I know my mind is changing... but I'm already too
far gone to know what to do. I want people to know that... if I do
things... if I do things that hurt anyone, please... please forgive me.
- [Another recording activates. Simon now very closely resembles Ice King.]
- Simon: Just watch over me until I can find a way out of
this labyrinth in my brain and regain my sanity!! And then maybe Betty,
my princess... maybe you will love me again. [Sobbing] Please love me again, Betty!!
- [Ice King cries.]

As you can see above, it tells that Ice King was a former person who has a deep interest in antiques, but he didn't got lucky as he wore the crown, pretend himself as "the king" just to impress his attractive "princess". That single event caused a lot of woes to him, from the loss of his sanity, his fine human soul, to the loss of his beloved one.
But what lies within these secrets?
What has happened as he wore the cursed crown?
Some say that he got in a fit of rage, due to the adverse effects of the crown itself, and killed his own fiance, though some knew that he control himself, but the crown controls him.
This is also something that captures my interest:
He is so active in the collection of such artifacts that he has also often sought recognition from historical societies/groups or even museums. But his history doesn't end up here.
